Maintaining aesthetic in timber construction 23 November 2023

Simpson Strong-Tie, a leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, has introduced the Simpson Strong-Tie® HSKP™ heavy seated knife plate, a high-capacity, welded concealed beam hanger for mass timber structures designed to meet heavy loads while providing a hidden-connector, wood-only design aesthetic.
Engineered specifically to meet some of the heaviest mass timber beam loads, the HSKP is a code-listed, easy-to-install connector that can accommodate larger mass timber beams while still providing a strong, secure wood-to-wood or wood-to-steel connection.
Installed in the factory with Strong-Drive® SDCF Timber-CF structural screws, the HSKP provides valuable time savings on the jobsite, and offers fit-up tolerance for easy beam placement. Strong and reliable, the HSKP is code listed for high-capacity loads up to 32 kips, and is ideal for a range of heavy beam applications where loads range from 20 kips to 32 kips.
“We’re excited to expand the range of our popular concealed beam hangers for mass timber,” says Thom Murphy, senior product manager at Simpson Strong-Tie. “Along with our other structural solutions for mass timber, the HSKP will provide a heavy-duty solution to designers and contractors working on high-load mass timber projects, and delivers additional versatility to help build safer, stronger buildings, faster.”
