GALM Europe 2017 launches 06 March 2017

The automotive lightweighting conference series returns to Europe - bringing brand new insights into the latest breakthroughs in lightweight materials for conventional and electric vehicle ranges.

The 6th Global Automotive Lightweight Materials Europe Summit 2017 will take place from 25th - 27th April 2017 at the NEC, Birmingham, UK.

Focusing specifically on the latest advancements in materials, including metals, composites and thermoplastics, reliable joining methods and new solutions for lightweighting of structural parts and components, as well as lightweighting that is specific to conventional and electric vehicle ranges.

The 2017 programme will put emphasis on improving material selection strategies, optimising multi material architectures and introducing new design solutions to drive quality and cost effectiveness across lightweight vehicle lines. Attendees also will be able to assess first-hand the latest lightweighting technologies applied to the likes of the Aston Martin BIW DB11 in the exhibition area.

Expert insight will be provided by over 30 OEM Led presentations including Volkswagen, Daimler, Tata Motors, Jaguar Land Rover, Aston Martin, Bentley and many more.

Sneak peak at the OEM presentations at GALM Europe 2017:
A keynote presentation by Dr. Oliver Schauerte, group research, head of materials and manufacturing processes at Volkswagen, discusses how materials research meets changes in automotive landscape – challenges and opportunities.

Kedar P. Godse, divisional manager, body engineering (cars) for Tata Motors Limited, will explain how to reduce the part count via relative geometry optimisation to achieve BIW reliability, part repeatability and eliminate the variations in car bodies.

Michael Lough, group leader, BIW materials and corrosion, materials engineering and engineering technical services (ETS) of Jaguar/Land Rover will discuss material selection strategies at JLR. Learn about the delta value between different materials to improve selection strategies in multi material designs.

Presenting novel lightweighting solutions for DB11, Yan Pugh-Jones, senior manager of body closures for Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd, reviews solutions and technologies for body structures applied within Aston Martin to maximise lightweighting and optimise performance.
